I truly do believe that everything happens for a reason. For 14 years I had been fitting women’s and men’s bodies in my custom sewing business. I had a couple of women who were breast cancer survivors and they began asking me to make things they couldn’t find in the stores.
My original idea was to make a line of clothing, specifically designed for breast cancer survivors, with the emphasis beginning on bathing suits. Upon conducting research and going to some cancer sponsored events, I was told about, and then introduced to, a very intelligent and wonderful lady, Carol Bond, who had owned a mastectomy boutique for 13 years.
We set up a time to meet and we got together to discuss the business in general. She is a breast cancer survivor and knows the struggles the women have finding the choices they so deserve. This was the reason she started her business, to offer those choices to her clients.
During our conversation she asked me to consider doing fittings for breast prostheses along with other services. She felt there was a need for a more private, one on one service that offered more choices.
So…my fitting of many bodies over the years paved the way for me to feel comfortable and confident that I could do this, not to mention the pleasure and gratification that I receive when I help someone look and feel their best. I so look forward to my work day when I know I am making a difference in someone’s life by providing them with all they rightfully deserve.
